This is Jack a German Shorthaired Pointer with a big heart looking for his forever home. He is one of many wonderful dogs searching for his forever home. Jack loves to hike and be outdoors, LOVES boating and his recall is very good even off-leash. We figure he's 3-5 yrs old, a gorgeous fun-loving boy, house & crate trained, neutered and up to date with his vaccinations. He has been bounced around so can be a little unsure of himself around other dogs at first however loves to play.  It takes him a little time to warm up to humans but once he does he is very attached. Currently his foster Mom has him socializing with her 2 dogs, a lab and a doberman and thanks to her love and attention, he is thriving in his foster environment! We are looking for a home without small animals as this breed is prone to a high prey drive … well they are bred for hunting and Jack is showing a strong prey drive to date. He is cuddly and loves to play. We are not sure how he is around small children so perhaps a home with older children (12+ years). His ideal forever home would be to have someone who has the patience and time to get him acclimated to his new environment, as he has some separation anxiety issues but seems that with a little time he will settle in nicely. His new humans will need to exercise him every day as he needs to run off that excess energy! If you are a runner then you couldn't ask for a better running partner!  He also needs someone to nicely lay down boundaries, as he has a tendency to be dominant but he's also a sensitive boy!

Jack was found as a stray and taken to a shelter south of the border in Washington. Many of our dogs come from the states as we work with other Rescue agencies in trying to keep these dogs out of high-kill shelters. These shelters are incredibly overloaded and thus many of them only give the dog 5 days to be claimed by their owner or adopted out. Unfortunately so many loving, healthy, happy dogs are put to sleep. This is why we do it. We arrange for Foster homes & Forever homes for these dogs, many of which are purebred however we are in desperate need for more Foster homes so if you are interested in helping us please email us!

Dogwood Rescue Society is a non-profit “specific breeds” rescue group who rescues “sporting” or “gun” dogs such as Pointers, Retrievers & Weimaraners, although we do not limit exclusively and will help re-home other breeds & crosses when we have room. We are a small network of dedicated volunteers, some of whom have been quietly re-homing animals for over 40 years. We care passionately about animal welfare.

The dogs we help are:

       abandoned because of hardship, inconvenience or ignorance;

       strays, slated for extermination in over-crowded shelters;

       surrendered, after years of faithful companionship simply because they are old;

       discarded because the family has “no time” for the dog;

       dispensed with by relatives who don’t want them or can’t keep them due to the owner’s illness or death.

Dogwood Rescue operates on a “Foster to Adopt” basis. Placing animals in probationary homes allows Dogwood Rescue to evaluate each animal’s needs and permits the adopter to assess the attention the animal requires, such as training and socializing. As a consequence, Dogwood Rescue has had great success in re-homing animals, ensuring the best placement for both the dogs and adopters.

Will You Foster?

Will you open your heart and home to dogs in need of a second chance?

As a foster family, you would take care of one of our dogs, evaluate them, train them and take them to the vet if needed, until a forever home is found for the dog. We provide training for you, food and cover the medical expenses. You provide the time, energy to love & meet these dogs’ need and in return you will have a very rewarding experience with these amazing dogs.

We have many other dogs ready for adoption and if you are interested please visit our website or see our dogs on Petfinder. You can view Jack's profile on Petfinder by going to: http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/22832691
